Klyne Museum Board:

I must tell you what a wonderful time I had at the museum, so many interesting items! (I think my favorite was the old curling iron, lol.) Sitting in the pew was such a thrill, imagining those who sat there soo many years before me. Seeing the old photographs, I could even imagine the families sitting there. Soo much history!

I did purchase Town Of Esopus Story; I’m excited to tell you I found20great grandmother Rose in photos! (page 246, school pictures, Stella Green) She must have helped with the names in the photo for it mentions she was living and also pointed out great grandfather Rose, stating she married him. I’m going to fill out a Legacy Brick form in her honor.

I’m writing down places I would like to see, one being the Indian Rock. As well, I would like Dad to point out all the former places, I find it so intriguing to be able to know what had once stood and imagine it as it had been.

Amazing Concert: The Story of Sacred Music in Esopus

October 4, Reformed Church, Salem Street, Port Ewen

Presents:
• The Association of Native Americans of the Mid Hudson Valley
• Ulster County Outreach Community Choir
• Bruderhof String Ensemble
• Klyne Esopus Concert Chorus
Under the direction of Linda Bresnahan McCarthy.
Guest organist is Rev. Kenneth Walsh of the Old Dutch Church.

The concert is a companion event to this year's Klyne Esopus Museum exhibit 'We Gather Together: Sacred Houses in Esopus. The museum is located on Rt. 9W in Ulster Park between El Paso Winery and Headless Horseman hayrides.

The concert follows the historical progression of sacred music in Esopus starting with a Native American chant, followed by a Dutch Hymn, a Negro Spiritual, and musical selections from Religious groups who established themselves in the town, including hymns by Bach and Mozart.

Threaded throughout the program will be the story of the song 'Amazing Grace', and its evolution from sacred song, to folk song, to most adapted song. The audience will be invited to participate in singing a verse of 'Amazing Grace' as the finale of the concert.

The concert is a benefit for the museum with a suggested donation of $10 per person.

Sat, Sept 20, 2008 Program: Skip Griffiths shows the authentic uniforms of different Zouave regiments involved in the American Civil War. Skip explained the origin of the regiments, their uniforms, the kit the men carried, the Hudson Valley roots of many of the enlistees and officers. Enlistment posters and original photos and documents relating to the Zouaves were also exhibited. Skip was mesmerizing, talking for over an hour without notes.
